TALLAHASSEE, FL – May 5, 2025 – Thomas Howell Ferguson P.A. CPAs (THF, or “the Firm”) celebrates the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of John Perry Thomas, a founding shareholder and the Firm’s first President, CEO, and Managing Shareholder, who passed away at the age of 80.
John Perry’s visionary leadership and steadfast commitment were instrumental in building the foundation of THF. Through his dedication to excellence, integrity, and service, he helped shape a firm culture that continues to thrive today. His influence remains evident in the values we uphold and the strong relationships we maintain with our clients and community.
With a distinguished 43-year career in public accounting, John Perry Thomas was a nationally recognized leader and pioneer in the profession. As a long-standing member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), he played a vital role in advancing the profession’s standards. He served on the inaugural Auditing Standards Board in 1978 and later contributed through his service on the AICPA Governing Council and Board of Directors, helping to shape the future of audit and assurance practices.
John Perry Thomas’ passion for mentoring and developing future professionals lives on through the FICPA’s John Perry Thomas Scholarship and Florida State University’s John Perry Thomas Speaker Series—two initiatives proudly supported by THF in his honor.
A proud advocate for his hometown, he made a lasting impact on the Tallahassee community through leadership roles with Leadership Tallahassee, Leadership Florida, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, and the Florida Chamber’s Finance Committee. John Perry also remained deeply connected to Florida State University, where he served on the Business Advisory Council, chaired the College of Business Alumni Association, and shared his expertise with students as an adjunct professor.
John Perry Thomas was more than a founder—he was a mentor, a trailblazer, and a deeply respected leader whose legacy will continue to guide and inspire us for generations to come.
