Senior Accounting Auditor (Full-Time)

Thomas Howell Ferguson P.A. CPAs (THF) is a growing, mid-sized accounting firm headquartered in Tallahassee, FL with other locations in Tampa, FL; Panama City, FL; and Bainbridge, GA. We are seeking an experienced and career-oriented Senior Accounting Auditor to join our Tallahassee team. You would be responsible for a wide array of auditing duties including evaluation of internal controls, financial statement preparation, direct client responsibilities and supervision of staff auditors. You would work with an exceptional team, receive ongoing training, and work in a technologically advanced office with a diverse group of clients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand the rules, regulations and code of professional conduct of the AICPA, FICPA and the Florida Board of Accountancy
- Begin to develop a command of GAAP, other comprehensive basis of accounting, unique or specialized accounting principles, and financial statement presentations
- Obtain a thorough understanding of generally accepted auditing standards and common audit procedures and techniques
- Prepare planning memorandums, engagement programs and time budgets
- Review and analyze internal control structures
- Assume responsibility for efficiently supervising both audit and non-audit engagements and training staff accountants, interns and paraprofessionals
- Recognize, in advance, possible engagement problems and propose solutions
- Possess technical knowledge to supervise staff accountants
- Prepare financial statements and management letters
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Have a thorough understanding of auditing standards generally accepted in the USA
- Prepare written narratives, engagement budgets and engagement programs
- Have a thorough understanding of internal control and a demonstrated ability to apply internal control concepts to the audit approach
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (required)
- CPA Certification is desirable, but must be at least CPA eligible
- 3+ years recent experience in public accounting
- Experience working in government and not-for-profit (preferred, but not mandatory)
- Technical knowledge sufficient to supervise staff accountants is a plus
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Position level may change based on experience
- Availability to work full-time Monday – Friday in the Tallahassee, FL office
- Already live in or around Tallahassee, FL or are willing to relocate (especially if you have ties to the area)
- Comfortable with working in an office setting the majority of the work week (note that occasional work-from-home days could be an option)
- Can pass a criminal background check and credit check
